WINNEBAGO COUNTY WAS INCORPORATED IN 1836, COVERS 520 SQUARE MILES, WITH A POPULATION OF OVER 278,000 PEOPLE (2000).

The Supervisor of Assessments Office assists Township Assessors in the performance of their duties and assists taxpayers with all property tax exemptions and inquiries regarding the tax cycle. The office oversees the Board of Review in completing their responsibilities such as preliminary decisions and hearings on property assessment complaints. The Board of Review processes prorated assessments for new construction and demolition and hears complaints filed with the Property Tax Appeal Board.

Each year the Supervisor of Assessments reviews the assessment changes from the township assessors, calculates and applies township equalization factors and notifies taxpayers of any change in their assessment. Taxpayer assistance, public awareness and education regarding the assessment process are important responsibilities of the Supervisor of Assessments.

The Supervisor of Assessments office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
